Top 3 Beers in Panama City, Panama
About Panama City, Panama from Wikipedia
Panama City (Spanish: Ciudad de Panamá; pronounced [sjuˈða(ð) ðe panaˈma]), also simply known as Panama (or Panamá in Spanish), is the capital and largest city of Panama.[3][4] It has an urban population of 880,691,[1] with over 1.5 million in its metropolitan area. The city is located at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, in the province of Panama. The city is the political and administrative center of the country, as well as a hub for banking and commerce.[5]
The city of Panama was founded on 15 August, 1519, by Spanish conquistador Pedro Arias Dávila. The city was the starting point for expeditions that conquered the Inca Empire in Peru. It was a stopover point on one of the most important trade routes in the American continent, leading to the fairs of Nombre de Dios and Portobelo, through which passed most of the gold and silver that Spain took from the Americas.
On 28 January, 1671, the original city was destroyed by a fire when the privateer Henry Morgan sacked and set fire to it. The city was formally reestablished two years later on 21 January, 1673, on a peninsula located 8 km (5 miles) from the original settlement. The site of the previously devastated city is still in ruins, and is now a popular tourist attraction, and is regularly visited by school trips.
My first trip to Panama City, Panama was in 2015. This was my first trip out of the US not on a Carnival Ship:) I fell in love with this beautiful city that has so much to offer and things to do! I tasted several beers while I was there and I was thoroughly impressed.
If you are planning a future trip to Panama City,Panama, here’s my top 3 beers you need to try while enjoying your visit to this beautiful country. Also, I recommend staying at the Hard Rock Hotel Megapolis. This hotel has awesome views of the city from their balcony rooms.
- Panama – cervecería nacional panama
This cerveza is very popular in Panama. You can purchase the regular or the light beer. I prefer the light but both beers are easy drinking, smooth and refreshing. When poured, it has a clear golden color and a sweet smell with a crisp aroma/taste. Ideal for pairing with meals such as seafood, and flavorful desserts. The alcohol content is 4.8 percent.
2. Balboa– cervecería nacional panama
When I arrived in Panama, this was my first beer I tasted at the Hard Rock Hotel. Balboa is a very flavorful beer. It’s ABV is the same as Panama. The alcohol content is 4.8 percent. This a wonderful beer to have lounging a the pool or beach. When pouring, it appears darker gold than most adjunct lagers. It’s light, sweet, and has a smooth, clean taste similar to Panama. I could drink it all day!!!
3. Atlas– cervecería nacional panama
This is my least favorite of all the three beers. When poured, it appears light pale yellow in color with a large head of white foam that cleared quickly with some noticeable carbonation streaming to the top. 4.5. Light aroma flavor but the taste was very dry and pale. I would recommend pairing this beer with a pizza or hamburger. The alcohol content is 3.8 percent. Overall, between, Balboa, and Panama, this beer is the third best, but worth trying.
Brief little history about the Panama Canal, Aedes aegypti.
The Panama Canal is regarded as a wonder of the modern world. Billions of pounds of shipping commerce pass through this brilliant waterway each year, but it was almost never completed. Its construction faced a huge barrier, but this wasn’t the mountains that needed to be leveled to create it, this barrier was entomological.
After nearly two decades of hard labour and $287million of investment, the canal project was ceased in 1889[4]. Without the human task force to continue and monetary resources drained, the disease had effectively paralyzed the French construction effort, leaving the United States to purchase the development rights from the now bankrupt French party for a fraction of the cost.
The United States were to succeed where many had failed thanks to a handful of brilliant scientists proving the cause of Yellow Fever transmission as the Mosquito, Aedes aegypti.
From wikipedia:
Aedes aegypti, the yellow fever mosquito, is a mosquito that can spread dengue fever, chikungunya, Zika fever, Mayaro and yellow fever viruses, and other disease agents. The mosquito can be recognized by white markings on its legs and a marking in the form of a lyre on the upper surface of its thorax. This mosquito originated in Africa,[2] but is now found in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions[3] throughout the world.[4]
